True Essential Oils Are Super Potent

True essential oils are from 100 to 10,000 times as potent as the herb so a little bit goes a long, long way.

Peppermint is a herb which throughout history has been highly regarded as a digestive stimulant. That is why people often have a cup of peppermint tea after a meal.

Each drop of peppermint essential oil is equal to almost 30 cups of the tea.

So the 15 ml (1/2 oz) bottle below is equivalent to 7000 cups of peppermint tea.

Some oils are very pricey because so much of the parent herb is required to produce them.

It takes 4000-6000 lbs of the herb Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) to produce 1 lb of its essential oil which sells for $9,000 – $15,000 US / kg.

It takes 10,000 lbs of rose petals to produce 1 lb of rose oil. The process used (enfleurage) is very time consuming. Rose oil is one of the most expensive of all.

Similarly it takes:
250 lbs of lavender to make 1 lb lavender oil.
1500 lemons to make 1 lb lemon oil.
