My wife and I have been using essential oils extensively on ourselves and clients since 1997. By far the most common use is for aches and pains of all kinds.
Therapeutic grade essential oils (they MUST contain no chemicals AND be of best quality) are very good at relieving pain. What follows is a short guide based on our experience.

Pain Of A Recent Injury (usually in a joint)

Chronic Pain (usually bone related )
We have used the oils below for long term aches such as in the shoulder or back. Our favorites are:
Wintergreen, Peppermint, Helichrysum can also be used in combination with the above .
Sore and Aching Muscles
- Aroma Siez (a Young Living blend containing basil, marjoram, lavender, peppermint and cypress oils)
Pain Related To Menses
- Dragon Time (a Young Living blend containing fennel, clary sage, marjoram, lavender, yarrow and jasmine oils)
- Clary Sage
Cuts And Scrapes
The oils below will reduce pain and disinfect a cut:
- Melaleuca alternifolia
- Eucalyptus globulus
- Clove oil (1 drop wins hands down)
